After a bunch of changes, here’s what we got:

-Rashad Evans vs Dan Henderson is now a three round main event, filling in for Barao vs Wineland.

-Lil Nog vs Shogun is your co-main event.

-Roy Nelson vs Stipe Miocic has been added to the main card.

-Eddie Wineland will be offered a fight shortly…

Certainly an…interesting card, particularly for the nostalgia of the main and co-main.

I have to admit, though, I’m sort of surprised at the amount of hand-wringing I’m seeing online over Barao having to pull out.

As much as it pains me to say it, Evans vs. Henderson was going to be the real draw anyway. For the purposes of keeping up appearances, of course you have to put the title fight on top. Speaking as a hardcore fan, I was looking forward to that fight more, but the reality is that a Bantamweight Championship fight isn’t going to move the needle, especially without Cruz.

The Doctor Who "reveal"

Cutting in case you want to avoid spoilers. But long story short, this was the reveal on the season finale.

Matt smith is actually the TWELFTH Doctor, not the eleventh. John Hurt is a previous regeneration that the Doctor has refused to acknowledge due to his actions.

Well., this sucks.

One of the things that made Tenant so great was that they emphasized the weight of the remorse and guilt he felt over his actions in the Time War. As good as Eccleston was, it was Tenant’s internal conflict that revived Who as a cultural phenomena. Matt Smith as Eleven (or Twelve, I guess) stripping the John Hurt regeneration of the right to even call himself “The Doctor” shows a disassociation from his actions that’s completely out of character and is in direct conflict with everything he’s ever said about his actions during the Time War.

Why, suddenly, does he no longer accept full responsibility? I guess you could argue that, in a way, it’s a form of self-loathing. That, or (and?) the different regenerations have different ways of dealing with guilt. I wouldn’t except either, though, because they just seem like easy cop-outs.

Then again, doesn’t everything under Moffat?

Look, I hate to piss on the love people have for him, but I feel like Matt Smith is really the only reason I keep on watching. Moffat obviously has imagination and a vision, but he’s also remarkably lazy. All the talk of fate, dumb explanations (do not even get me started with the astronaut assassination stuff), and dismissive explanations as climaxes of storylines have driven me bonkers. It’s not good storytelling. Just because it’s complicated doesn’t make it good, and I feel as if everyone’s just convinced themselves otherwise because Who under Russell T. Davies was just so goddamn good. I know that’s why I’m still watching, at least.

Well, anyway, yeah. On November 23rd, we get the anniversary special and I suppose the explanation as to why John Hurt can’t call himself The Doctor, and I’m sure Moffat will have Matt Smith explain it all with a smile and then River Song will come back as a ghost but be able to touch people and another version of Clara will pop up and be used as the forty-seventh deus ex machina in the two-hour special and dumb people on Tumblr who don’t know better will, once again, go on about how clever it is when really it’s just dumb and convoluted.
